My store was collecting money for MDA ( Muscular Distrophy) and we had two (2) big ice tea jars to put the customers change/donations in. We had 1 for the drive-thru and 1 for the front counter. The Drive-thru jar had about $150 or more in it already!! This was on friday...the one on the front counter was out of reach of the customers andhad about $200 in it!!! And this was a matter of 3 or 4 days worth.
Anyways, as most restruants have video cameras for good reasons we do too. AT about 10:30 p.m. on Friday night one of our "so called" good employees moved the jar on the front counter to where a person could take it...Here's the thing about that he had his brother's girlfriend do it!! When he moved the jar, he then went to the front doors and waved her in and came back to his register and acted like nothing was going on!! She walked up to the counter got a cup for water went to the drink station came back GRABBED the jar and walked out the flippin' doors!!!!!!!!! While she was getting her drink, he turned around and was talking to the people who were working on the grill and blocked their view of what was going on.
I came in at 5 a.m. Saturday morning and didn't realize it at the time...I was too busy trying to clean the flippin' store because the graveyard crew did a shitty job and did not clean or stock anything so I didn't think anything was wrong at the time. Around 7 or 7:30, my boss comes in and I looked at him and realized that the jar was GONE!!! I asked my boss if he seen it and he said "No, it should be right here!" Just what it was gone...The graveyard manager didn't notice it either!!
My boss watched the video tape and sure shit he saw everything!! He called his boss and they waited for the employee to come to work his shift 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. -- The guy comes in and to make a long story short -- He denied everything of course but the part that kiils me is my boss (Glenn) was asked by his boss (Brad) "How much money do you think was in there?" Glenn then in turn said "About $200!" the employee jumped up and said...NOW GET THIS... He said "No there's not...I mean...uh"
We had him dead to rights on this then Brad the flippin' idiot told the employee if you bring back $125. we will not arrest you -- we just want the money back. The employee brought money a flippin' $37!!!
Because of what Brad said and what the employee brought back the police can not arrest him!! However, if the MDA wants to go after him we might still be able to get him!!!
Ok so you think this is over??!! WRONG!!! I worked from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. yesterday and we still had 1 jar the one in the drive - thru...... Another shift leader like myself moved it from the drive thru just because she was afraid that something could happen to it --Good Job!! Things were going fine all day until right before 5 p.m. I counted the safe to make sure the right amount was there and I found 3 pennies and decided to put them in the jar. So I walked up to the front counter (OUT OF CUSTOMERS REACH) and I about hit the floor...
IT WAS GONE TOO!!!
I grabbed my phone and called my boss and told him that it was gone and he just about dropped and said "You have got to be kiddin'!" I told him everything and had my crew look everywhere even in the dumpster outside!!! So now he is going to look through this tape and see if he can figure out where the hell the money went!!
I am so upset that I just want to see the flippin' employee and beat the crap out of him. How can a person do such a horrible thing??? So now my boss and I are on the war path about this second jar -- I hope we dcan find out who has it!!
Miss Terri - it is so sad that so few people today feel any sense of responsibility to anyone or anything. Hopefully some justice will be served - and in the long term it will - sometimes it is hard to wait it out. Blessings - june
Its really bad when someone has to rob from a place that does nothing but help people.Just goes to show you what this world of ours is coming too. Who ever the person is will have the guilt eat away at him/her very slowly....ANd it will haunt them for the rest of their natural lives...Well at least we can hope it will. Gloria
